Reflection on Sound

Now every time that I listen to the radio, I am always listening to see if I hear any mistakes. I always listen to start 104 they do have their mistakes sometimes. When I hear the radio commercials I tend to count the different sounds that were used in making it. Its impressive how my listening has improved so much. Before I used to hear what was around my surrounding, now I actually listen to what's going on. What I used to think it was a quite place before now it's really loud. I am able to listen to the natural sound; air conditioning, wind blowing, etc.
I really enjoyed this class. I had so much fun in doing all my projects. I liked how we listen to every ones projects and learned from each others mistakes.I did learn about editing and the difference between just listening and hearing.

Documentary Project

My documentary was about bilingual people. I interviewed one of my friends and I found out things thinks about her that I didn't know. Now I am glad I did this projects because I can help her out whenever she needs help.
This project about how Ana spend her first day of school here in the United States and how she is still struggling through college because of English being her second language.

Soundwalk 1

This project was very hard. I am used to see nature first rather than listening to it. With this project was forced to closed my eyes and concentrate in my listening. I couldn't stay focused for then 5 minutes. After that my mind was thinking about something else rather then listening to my surroundings.
Than I found out it hard to express what I was listening to in a piece of paper. This project made me realize that it is better to  listen first and then see the sight.

soundslide project

I have to say that doing this project was sad to do. The story I focused on was very sad and recent that I didn't know how much to ask my interviewee without reviving his lost. Doing the interview is what was the hardest to do. Putting the audio and the song together was easy since I had done it before. I had to interview Kyle twice in order to get good soundbites of what I wanted him to say for my project.
overall it was a sad project to do.

Sound Effects

Doing our own commercial was very fun. I really enjoyed this project. It was great listing to the products that other students came up with to advertise.

The only problem that I encounter was finding sound effects for my commercial. I felt that using too many didn't go well with my commercial. That's why I only used the sound effect of a hairspray can. Overall it was an easy and fun assigment.

Soundwalk 2

Between soundwalk 1 and 2 my favorite was soundwalk 2. To me it's much easier to capture the sound on tape then trying to describe it. The best location I recorded was outside the Smith Chapel. It was during the night, where you could hear the sound of the birds, crickets, the air blowing and the sound from the trees. The hardest place to capture sound was from the edit room. The sounds I described in soundwalk 1 could not be captured with the microphone because either the sound was to low or it just didn't sound right. It was a fun exercise. Now I pay more attention to my surroundings to see where sound is coming from.

Exercise 3: The voice

Recording my voice in a monotone was very hard. I am a very cheesy person. So, every time I talk I always have to smile. When I was doing my monotone recording it was hard to me to smile when talking into the microphone. The only difference that I found between my monotone and enthusiastic recording was that i was much soft talking in the monotone recording.
Reading the children's book was fun and easy to do for me. As mostly everyone knows I have a two year old daughter that I have to read books to every night before bed time. But, I feel that the book I read required of my voice to change then the other books that my classmate picked. I was able to change the pitch of voice with Up, Up Down book by Robert Munsch. I had dialogue in my book which my others classmates didn't. It was a good exercise.
